Making the Most of an Ocean View Kitchen

  • One of the main reasons to renovate an oceanfront property is to open up the kitchen to the view. This was the case for a project done by lead designer Gwynite van Tuyl Weswick of Emerge Design in Sechelt, British Columbia, who was brought in to not only change the direction of the kitchen but also create a bright and welcoming space throughout the whole main level.

  • This cabin from the 1940s was inherited from the grandparents of one of the current homeowners, a couple with grown children who use it as a summer getaway. It’s located in Roberts Creek, a town north of Vancouver along British Columbia’s Sunshine Coast, a remote and mountainous region accessible only by air or boat.

    The homeowners enlisted designer Gwyntie van Tuyl Weswick of Emerge Design to transform the cabin from dark and gloomy to light and airy, taking full advantage of the seaside location.

  • For a homeowner in Dawson Creek, B.C., with a love of Marimekko, incorporating bold patterns wasn’t even a question. “The client had some great existing pieces, and a love for fun colours,” explains Gwyntie van Tuyl Weswick of Emerge Design, an interiors firm based on B.C.’s Sunshine Coast. “We wanted to incorporate many elements into the home by using bold patterns and prints.”
